We stayed at Hotel Tateyama in Murododaira during our Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route trip. There are several choices of hotels, B&Bs and lodges along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.

It was a long way to travel to Tateyama from Tokyo. Finally, we were happy to enjoy Toyama’s local cuisine.

Tateyama has some of the heaviest snowfalls in the world. This area gets over 10m of snow and sometimes as much as 20m. When mountain-climbing season starts, local people clear away the snow on the Tateyama route and create a snow corridor.

You can walk for about 40 mins along the 500-meter long snow corridor from mid April to May. The snow walls remain until August and you can play in the snow.

You can take a rest at Hotel Tateyama’s tea lounge. Cold-brew coffee with Tateyama’s spring water was excellent.
